Biography

Academic & professional background
I’m Marc Perelló-Sobrepere, a professor and researcher at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. My work is grounded in communication studies and follows three main branches: mass media and new media, political communication, and cultural studies.
I hold a PhD in Communication Sciences from Universitat Ramon Llull and combine academic research and teaching with more than 20 years of experience in communication and advertising. I am accredited by AQU and ANECA, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Alongside my work at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, I have taught or collaborated with EU Business School, ESIC University, Universitat Europea d’Andorra, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Johan Cruyff Institute, EAE Business School, IQS, Blanquerna, and Universitat Abat Oliba CEU.
Three branches of research
Mass media and new media. I approach media through the lens of media ecology, examining how media environments shape communication, social relationships, and the ways we understand the world.
Political communication. I focus especially on the use of social media in political life, exploring its role in public debate, political participation, and the relationship between citizens, political actors, and institutions.
Cultural studies. My interests include popular culture and audiovisual narratives, with attention to how cultural texts produce meaning, represent identities, and engage with wider social and political contexts.
I have presented research at international conferences hosted by institutions including the Free University of Brussels, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Westminster, City University London, the University of Copenhagen, and UNIVA.
From practice to research
My academic work draws on more than two decades in communication and advertising, including roles at Havas Media, Cyberclick, and Creativialab. I have worked on branding, strategy, and consultancy for organisations including BMW, Damm, Mazars, Banc Sabadell, Carolina Herrera, GLS, Mini, Vichy Catalán, Munich, and DKV.
I have participated as an expert at the Future Dialog for Global Innovation in Seoul and at AEMARK and IMAT. I also contribute analysis to media including El Singular Digital, Catalunya Ràdio, BTV, La Xarxa, and El Punt Avui.
In ¿Me lo compro? (Libros de Cabecera, 2026), I bring together marketing and sociology through El Estadio de la Validación, my model for analysing how a consumer’s social environment influences purchasing decisions.
